Where once the camcorder was a clunky tape-based device that recorded analog signals onto cassette, today’s camera can shoot in high definition 3D, deliver video wirelessly to a remote station, and can be remotely controlled by a smartphone or tablet.

The welcome evolution of video camera recorders has made these devices easier to handle and feature rich. Lighter weight than their predecessors, the camcorder comes in a number of different sizes allowing professional video capture in a handhold format or on a fixed platform. With a myriad of options from onboard editing and touch screen controls to high zoom rated lenses with image stabilization, the pro video recorder isn’t just a recording device, it is a high-tech platform that captures, optimizes, enhances, and stores motion pictures.

Today’s professional camcorders now record in a variety of formats. One of the most recent formats available is 4K. 4K, most commonly known as Ultra-High Definition (UHD) for TV and PC displays, comes in several different resolution sizes, with the only requirement that the format offers at least four times the pixels than Full HD. The result of this feature is an increased pixel breakdown that delivers image clarity that goes well beyond conventional 1090 HD resolution and presents more vibrant, varied, and realistic colors as well as much higher frame rates.

Another unique and relatively new feature to professional video cameras is 3D. To create a 3D image the camcorder captures two different images, simulating the different perspectives of the left and right eye. Some machines may also have software onboard to create this effect.

One of the most effective and new features of the modern professional grade camcorder is the WiFi option. Camcorders with WiFi capabilities allow the user to wirelessly transfer your still and motion pictures to your computer, quickly back them up on a hard-drive, or upload them directly to the cloud or a social networking site. Some WiFi features may also allow you to wirelessly connect and transfer the data to mobile devices. Further, this feature also can allow you to control the camcorder remotely from an app on a smartphone or tablet.
