Canon Cinema Firmware Updats

The Canon C400 is getting a new Full Frame 3:2 shooting mode. This helps bring Canon's flagship Cinema camera in line with their newly released Canon C50.

You are now able to use the full CMOS II sensor, and Canon is giving you a variety of desqueeze modes (2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, 1.3x) to open up their top of the line camera to anamorphic shooters.

Canon has also improved image quality when using focus peaking in low-light situations. They added more customizability for your function buttons, including: digital teleconverter magnification, AF frame, and AF detection.

It's clear that Canon is positioning themselves as the go to choice for anamorphic shooters. They now have multiple different Open Gate options, with full support for anamorphic desqeeze. If you are looking into getting moving to anamorphic, having a Canon C400, and Canon C50 are 2 of the best  camera options out there.

CANON EOS C80, C70, AND R5C

The Canon C80,  the Canon C70, and the Canon R5C are getting the ability to change how you playback clips. Now any clips recorded in Canon Log 2 or Canon Log 3 can be played back in either Canon 709 or CMT 709 gammas. This should hopefully give you a better idea of the final looks of your shots while out in the field.

There has also been a huge improvement in image quality, when using focus peaking in a low light environment.

It's always a huge win when Canon adds modern features to their older cameras. It's good to know that as Canon figures out how to make these more complex features work, that they will do their best to bring them back to older cameras.
