When using the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z Lens, or another of Canon’s new Hybrid Zoom Lenses, you'll want to be able to zoom without putting your hands on the barrel of the lens. Zooming by twisting the ring on the barrel of the lens will cause the lens to shake in almost all circumstances. Luckily for us, the new Canon Hybrid Lens line offers an optional attachment to control for just this issue, The Canon PZ-E2B 20 Pin Power Zoom Adapter, and the Canon ZSG-C10 Grip Unit.
To accomplish this you need a few things:
Any Camera Cage with an Arri Rosette
All you have to do is attach the PZ-E2B Power Zoom Adapter to the barrel of your compatible lens (ex. RF 24-105 F2.8 L IS USM Z), and make sure the screws are tight. Now mount your ZSG-C10 to the Arri Rosette on your cage. Take the 20-pin cable from your ZSG-C10 and plug it into the 20-pin port on the side of the PZ-E2.
The 20 pin port on the PZ-E2 is designed to work smoothly with the separate ZSG-C10 hand grip. You should now be able to operate the Lens zoom with the top rocker on the ZSG-C10. The record button should also be functional as the lens is connected electronically with your camera body.
Now you should be able to take full advantage of the main benefits of Canon’s Hybrid Lens Line, smooth zooming function while moving the lens around. This kind of set up is perfect for ENG use, Newsgathering, Sports, and other situations where reframing and zooming on the fly is necessary. Complement that with the Hybrid Lenses quick and relatable auto focus, and you’ve got a set up that hits way above its weight class in price.
